Welcome to Nomads Golf United Kingdom
‘No man is an island entire of itself; Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind. And therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee’
From the Meditations of Jonn Donne (1573 – 1631)
Our club badge, a bell crossed by a golf club, is symbolic of the raison d’être of the NOMADS – through golf the remembrance of others.
Nomads was founded by in South Africa in 1960 by Mike Florance who had the foresight to establish a club of no fixed abode where like-minded golfers meet once a month to build friendships, help charities and support disabled, ladies and junior golf. His principles have stood the test of time and today Nomads has more than 2,000 members in 8 countries around the globe.
At Nomads our scoring is based on Medal-Stableford, where the round is played flat against the course and the player’s handicap is added in full afterwards. In other words, if your handicap is 12 and you score 18 points your total score is 30 (12 + 18). Playing flat against the course will earn you 2 points for a par, 3 for a birdie, 4 for an eagle, 1 for a bogey 1 and 0 for a double bogey.
Our monthly games are played in Berkshire and Gloucestershire and our playing calendar extends from August through to July. The year culminates at our National Tournament to be played on Friday the 12th and Saturday the 13th of July 2024 at the Marriott St. Pierre in Wales.
An integral part of Nomads is supporting those less fortunate than ourselves. This year we supported a local charity, The Knights Foundation, and are pleased to announce that we raised in excess of £5,800 for them. Over and above the money collected throughout the year and good portion of the money was raised at our annual Charity Day which was held on the 20th of August 2023 where 88 Nomads and their visitors teed it up for a good cause. Nomads UK would like to thank all our sponsors for their generous contributions, without your support none of this is possible.
Provide the opportunity for like-minded golfers to meet one another once a month to forge new friendships and cement old ones.
Through golf we make a difference by raising money for those less fortunate than ourselves.
Futherance of Golf. To encourage, promote and support the game of golf in the United Kingdom.
